A COMMON PURPOSE FOR THE TEAM TO FOLLOW

Being a part of a team means a person’s main motive should be to help achieve the team’s goal first and foremost. Individual goals and objectives are important, but a person needs to place the goals of the team before theirs. There are different types of people in a team working together. These people have different skills, knowledge and experience, but in the end, all these skills and knowledge of all the team members should result in the achievement of objectives set by the team as a whole. 

Any team, irrespective of their organization, has various kinds of people in it. They have their own abilities, experience, knowledge and purpose. So, it is important to set such a purpose for the whole team that motivates each and every member to work towards the target set. The team, as a whole, should set such a target that should be understandable and acceptable by all the members. 

Let’s understand this with an example. The British Red Cross put forward a great example of teamwork during the January 2010 Haiti Earthquake. There were thousands of volunteers working together during the crisis. 

RED CROSS HELPING AFTER THE HAITI EARTHQUAKE-

The worst kind of earthquake hit during January 2010. The Haiti Earthquake caused a lot of damage to the people. So to help the people, the British Red Cross stepped forward. 

The British Red Cross gathered thousands of workers. There were volunteers to frontline disaster specialists to doctors all coming forward to help during a time like such. People with different skills, professions, experiences and backgrounds came forward willingly to help after the Haiti Earthquake. 

But you might be wondering how such different people worked together? They had a common goal. Every person worked together for the betterment of other people, whatever they did was to help others only. Each person had a very clear vision of where this team of thousands of people wants to reach. So, irrespective of who they are, the workers worked as a team.

MEANING IN THEIR WORK-

It is true that any person has a purpose in whatever they do. They need to accomplish something, and that is why they are working hard for it. But when the same person is a part of a team there should be meaning in what they do.

To reach the desired objectives, a team needs to be inspired. This inspiration does not come from outside, but from within the team members. It is the job of each team member to inspire others to work efficiently to achieve the desired outcome. 

LEARNING-

For any team to be efficient, it is important for them to have a very compelling purpose. This will drive each member to work efficiently and hard so as to reach the team’s desired outcome. For this, each member of a team needs to be inspired, connected, and be more coordinated. And this is only possible by the efforts of the team members themselves.
