EXCUSES WILL GET YOU NOWHERE, BUT HARD WORK WILL

John Paul DeJoria is a self made billionaire and a philanthropist. He is the co-founder of the hair care products company called John Paul Mitchell Systems and high end tequila Patron Spirits Company. Whatever that he has today, he has very well worked hard for it from scratch with passion and determination.

EARLY LIFE OF DEJORIA-

John Paul Dejoria was born in the year 1944. He was only two years old when his parents got divorced. He and his older brother then stayed with his mother. Times were tough when he was young. From the age of nine, John and his brother started selling cards to support their family. He completed high school in 1962. The two brothers were then sent to foster homes because their mother couldn’t take proper care of the children. 

John DeJoria then served the US Army for two years. When he returned, he could not afford college, so he started doing various kinds of jobs like being a door-to-door shampoo salesman, a caretaker, and many similar jobs for many years.

EXPERIENCE IN HAIR CARE COMPANY-

John DeJoria did many jobs here and there from being a caretaker to the salesman. But these did not serve a very steady income. He then joined Redken Laboratories in 1971. This was a hair care product manufacturing company. Working in Redken Laboratories helped John acquire a lot of knowledge and experience in the hair care products line. But in the year 1754, he was fired from there because of some disagreements regarding the business strategies in the company.

After Redken Laboratories, John joined Fermodyl Hair Care. There he was working in the management and the sales department. Due to his hard work and dedication, the sales figures were rapidly increasing in the company. Although, he was fired from her a few years later as well. John then joined the Institute of Trichology but also had to leave because the company could not afford to pay his salary.

ESTABLISHMENT OF PAUL MITCHELL SYSTEMS-

Even when John Paul DeJoria was asked to leave his job, he did not lose hope. Instead of feeling sorry for himself and not trying hard, he along with his friend Mitchell founded his own company. Mitchell was John’s friend, who worked as a hairdresser. The two of them together founded Paul Mitchell Systems. They did not have enough money during that time and started the company with a loan of a mere $700. 

The aim of his products that their company was creating was to help stylists do their job in less time but more efficiently. The first product the company ever created was a single application shampoo and conditioner. The company did not earn high revenue in the very beginning; it struggled for a few years. 

They earned $ 1 billion in its third year, giving it a great boost. 

DEJORIA’S LOVE FOR NATURE-

John Paul DeJoria is a great nature lover. Even when he founded his own business, he still stood by his beliefs and ideals. The hair care products which his company created were never tested on animals. He would often test these products on himself. He has funded many companies like the Gustin Energy Company, with a mind to do something for the ecology. 

HELPS IN CREATING EMPLOYMENT-

Not only is John DeJoria very considerate about the environment, he also does whatever he can to help the people. In one of his latest interviews, John mentioned that he purchased a part of Barbuda Island. The local people in Barbuda rely mostly on fishing for their daily income. And recently fishing was suspended in those areas due to overfishing. To create employment for the people in Barbuda, John made plans to build multi-million dollar homes there, which will not only be eco-friendly but will also provide job opportunities there. He mentioned such projects in detail in his interview.

He is a part of over 160 charities worldwide in the education sector, employment and also environment sectors. 

LEARNING-

From a person having nothing to a person having everything, John’s life teaches people many lessons. But the most important one of all which people nowadays cannot deal with is ‘Accepting Rejection,’ and ‘Not Making Excuses.’ This is very important for everyone to understand that we might not always be successful in our plans. Sometimes we might face failures and it is okay. 

A failure always teaches a lot of things, helps us gain experience and opens new paths for us. And instead of making excuses, we should actually work hard towards our goals.
