IT’S NEVER TOO LATE TO WORK FOR YOUR DREAM

It is never too early or too late to start working towards your goal. Whenever a person decides to work hard, it is the correct time. Each individual has their own journey to make. They move forward at their own pace, comparing it with others will only demotivate the person’s enthusiasm. 

Joy Mangano is a woman who is known by all. She was a mother to three kids when she started to realize what she wanted to do in her life and then worked hard for it.

JOY MANGANO’S EARLY LIFE-

Joy Mangano had an interest in creating and inventing things since she was very young. She was very good at drawing, creativity, and designing. She would try different experiments in her own house as a teenager, though they did fail miserably, Joy did not lose hope. She tried nevertheless.

She always had a soft spot for the animals and so as a teenager, she started working in a veterinary clinic. While working there, she got the idea of creating fluorescent collars for the animals. This will make spotting the animals easier during the nighttime and will help save their lives. However, she could not work on her idea because a year later a similar product was launched.

BEGINNING OF JOY MANGANO’S SUCCESS-

Joy Mangano married young. Even while she was married she worked in several jobs like waitressing to support her family. But after a few years, the couple decided to separate. She had three children and to support them. The family’s condition was poor during that time. And that was when she had a brilliant idea to start her business.

At a gathering with friends and family, Joy was cleaning pieces of broken glass. While she was cleaning, a piece of glass cut her finger. That was when she thought it would be good if there was a self-squeezing mop that wouldn’t hurt her hand. This gave rise to the initial idea of her business. 

She pitched her family and friends about this idea and with their loan and her savings collected a sum of $ 1,00,000. This was her initial capital which she invested in her business. In 1991, she created her first ‘Magic Mop’ in her father’s store, Derek Park.

The beginning years of her business did not earn Joy Mangano much. In the first year of starting her business, she earned only $10,000.  She spread her business in local stores and exhibitions to let people know about ‘Magic Mop’. 

To increase her sales, she decided to use the help of the media. She approached QVC TV and proposed to make a TV commercial for her Magic Mop. But, even after telecasting the commercial, not much difference is made in her sales. That is when she decided to appear in the commercial herself. A second video was recorded and contrary to the beliefs of the producers that this was not a good idea; Magic Mop sold 18,000 magic Mops after just 20 minutes of telecasting her commercial.

That was the start of her great success. Joy Mangano has more than 100 patents under her name. In 1997, she became ‘Entrepreneur of the year’. In 2007, Joy’s name was added under ‘100 most creative people in businesses, and in 2010 under ’10 most creative women entrepreneurs. 

In 2015, a movie named ‘Joy’ was released which was based completely on Joy Mangano’s journey, starring Jennifer Lawrence.

Joy Mangano started her career not very early in life. But that did not hamper her success in any way. She achieved what she worked hard for. And this is a very important thing that people can learn from Joy Mangano. She motivated herself to work hard for her family and was successful.
