Oprah Winfrey is a woman known for her great achievements. Her life has inspired millions of people all around the world to work hard towards their goals. Whatever she has achieved is not in a single try. Oprah Winfrey had to go through a lot to reach where she is today.

OPRAH WINFREY-

Oprah Winfrey was born in 1954 and belonged to a rural Mississippi. The family where she was born was not doing well financially. She was sent back and forth between her family members a lot. From a very young age, she was very interested in performances and took to the stage.

But even as a young child, Oprah had to face a lot of challenges. As she was an African American, she had to face a lot of racism. As they belonged to a poor family, her grandmother and mother did not expect much from her in the field of career. But Oprah has different plans for herself.

In her teen years, Oprah Winfrey went to live with her father in Nashville. Her father changed her life then. Whatever values, discipline, and principles Oprah had inculcated in life, all that was because of her father. There she joined East Nashville High School and there was where she discovered her passion for media. In high school, she joined the speech team. She also worked part-time for a local black radio station after school. Oprah received a full scholarship to Tennessee State University. Although she left college early.

STARTING POINT IN HER CAREER-

At the age of nineteen, she went ahead to pursue her career in the field of media. By the age of 20, she was the first black female anchor. She was doing well and had tried a lot of different gigs. But, Oprah in her show mentioned being sexually harassed in her office but was fired after a few months of work.

Oprah Winfrey then landed a job as a host in the morning talk show “AM Chicago”. The show was one of the lowest ranking shows when she was offered her position as the host. But because of her hard work, she turned the show from the lowest to one of the highest-rated talk shows in Chicago. Three years later she renamed the show and named it “The Oprah Winfrey Show”. The show continued to air for the next 25 years.

During that time, Oprah Winfrey was asked to star in a film called “The Color Purple”. It was Oprah’s first film. But because of her excellent performance, she made the film a masterpiece. She was also nominated for the Academy Awards for her performance as the best supporting role female.

After that Oprah signed a record-breaking contract with King World. And just like her previous morning talk, this too became a hit. In 1998, Oprah founded her own production company Harpo Inc. This was the place where she produced her stories, stories which she thought were worth telling people.

LEARNING-

Oprah Winfrey had offered a lot to the media industry. She changed the course of the industry. From facing criticisms to racism to gender inequality, she proved herself. No matter what obstacle came her way, she worked hard with determination and honesty and reached where she is today.
